A new Des Moines Register Mediacom Iowa Poll found more than half of Iowa adults support bills that would ban “gender transition procedures” for minors and LGBTQ instruction in Iowa elementary schools.
The poll found that 52 percent of Iowa adults favor a bill that would ban gender transition procedures for minors. The bill, passed by Senate and House lawmakers last week, would block Iowans under the age of 18 from receiving puberty blockers, hormone therapies and other gender-related surgeries, regardless of consent from doctors or parents.
A total of 54 percent of Iowa adults say they approve of bills that would ban Iowa teachers and school staff from talking about gender identity or sexual orientation in Kindergarten through sixth grade.
